Adopt a Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Domestic Short Hair (short coat) Cat

Toonces (Courtesy Post) the Cat needs a home

Toonces is a fun loving DSH buff orange and white male looking for his forever family.
He was born early spring in 2015.
He comes with a story of incredible resilience and propensity to trust.

Toonces came to me around Christmas 2015. He was an 8 month old somewhat feral kitten. He had hid outdoors around my home for about 2 days before he let me see him up close and much to my horror I had realized something had gotten a hold of him and tore much of the skin off of his front right leg. Although limping from pain and infection, he allowed me to coax him to a pole shed where he began his rehabilitation. This began his extreme kitty makeover.

Once inside the shed, he "disappeared" for days, only to show himself when I brought out fresh food and to refill his water. My veterinarian had given me antibiotics to add to his food and he quickly began to recover. By the 6th day I could touch him. By the 10th day I could pick him up and he would walk into a pet crate to eat food. A visit to the vet soon followed for exam and vaccination, which with a little patience from my vet, Toonces was very cooperative.

He soon came indoors to a small area in my basement where his rehabilitation could continue. It was there he assured me he was litter box trained, learned how to use a scratching post, and refined the art of chasing sparkle balls, fuzzy toy mice and curling up in my lap. Much to the surprise of my vet, all of the skin and hair grew back and there is no longer any sign of injury or lameness. He was neutered in January 2016 and further vaccinated and dewormed and deemed healthy by my veterinarian.

He is a fun cat and although initially shy in a new setting with new people, quickly warms up once he gains his confidence and becomes very playful when around people. I think when he is older he will grow to be very laid back. I feel Toonces may work better as an only cat as he tends to play too rough with the other older cats in my care. He may not do well with young children for this reason. He has not been around dogs much, does show some fear when my neighbor's dog comes over to visit, but again with time, he may come to enjoy a dog companion.

This little guy has overcome so much in his short time with me, I know he would make someone a wonderful companion. He needs someone who has a little patience and time for him to acclimate into his new forever home. Please help get the word out about this special guy. Thank you for your interest and help with his life’s journey.
